This small deserted fishing village, is situated just north of La Barrosa beach. It's directly across from small island of Sancti Petri. The village is windswept and desolate, but still retains a definite appeal. Just before the village, there is a fishing port and harbor with lots of discarded ships.Follow the road past the old village and you'll come to the modern port. This is completely different. It's a lively port, with a mooring capacity for over 700 boats. There is also a yacht club, along with a windsurfing and sailing school.
Traces of Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman civilizations are obvious in Chiclana, and Cadiz - which are the oldest cities in Europe. This Island is surrounded by folklore and legends. Throughout the Roman era, an ancient temple was built on its peninsula. It is said to be a shrine to the mighty Hercules. Chiclana, along with other towns in the area were built on the frontiers. These towns were the final frontiers dividing the Christian and Moorish civilizations that existed here, back in the 15th century.
