It is located 25 miles southwest of Malaga, the few miles of coast amid Marbella and Puerto Banus, is Spain's answer to Monte Carlo. The Spanish elite, and Britain's more successful felons, have flashy houses on the surrounding hills, and posh yachts in the marina. The restaurants and bars are more stylish and expensive and the town has been spared the worst extremes of concrete expansion.
Worthy of a visit is the Plaza de Naranjos a delightful square named after the orange trees that grow there, that was specially made back in 1504 by the first Christian governor. It is a fine-looking centerpiece to the town with an impressive fountain in the center dating back to 1604.
