Zaragoza is the capital of Aragon and lies on the banks of the Ebro River. This city of just
over half a million people belies its small size, with an energetic street scene and nightlife
combined with an amazing variety of cultural influences. Romans, Arabs, Jews and Christians
have all added their versions of culture to the city's history.
Car Hire Zaragoza is a great way to explore Zaragoza.
Its urban expansion began following its foundation as a Roman settlement between the years 19
to 15 B.C. when it received the name of Cesarauguta, in tribute of its creator, the Emperor
Caesar Augustus. The design of the former Roman town has been little changed in the old part
of the city, between the rivers Coso and Ebro. In addition, the remains of the Roman walls,
sewage system, theatre, paving and splendid mosaics are still preserved and show the huge
value this settlement once had.
The narrow lanes surrounding the city's Independence Square is the place to go for fine tapas
bars and an informal drinking? In the evenings, Independence Square comes alive, as thousands
of people take to the streets for a walk. Then, as the night falls the bars and clubs of the
Old Quarter start to come a live.
