Vitoria-Gasteiz 66km south of Bilbao, in the mid-19th century the city expanded
to the south. This region is nowadays the city center and
focal shopping quarter. Most of the streets and squares in
the center are for pedestrians only and include a great number
of sculptures from the Basque Country, and you will also discover
splendid mansions, 19th century houses and the new Cathedral.
Calle Paz is the main shopping street of the city and marks
the eastern boundary of the city center.
You can take pleasure in the remarkable fresh modern art museum, and soak up some of the
charisma of this green urban enclave, crammed with avenues and parks. There is also an old
quarter, full of Renaissance buildings, most of which are at present art galleries
and museums. The city also has two Gothic cathedrals, one dating from the 12th century and
one modern but designed in Gothic style.
Exploring the city by Car Hire Vitoria
will give you an idea about how the city has effectively managed
to maintain a harmonious balance between its immense legacies
of the past. They have a development plan using the most recent
construction techniques and have given rise to a city equally
practical and welcoming. You will see lots of footways, green
areas, cycle-paths, cultural and sport centers that the city
has to offer.
