Vigo is Galicia's biggest city. The city is alleged to be the largest fishing
harbor in Spain. It is located in gorgeous surroundings close
to the mouth of a deep ria spanned by a high bridge. And offers

Similar to lots of other places in Spain, the French army occupied the town in 1809. The
popular resistance to his invasion resulted in a rebellion that ended with an assault on the
walls and the eviction of the French soldiers. This event led to Vigo being awarded the title
of Faithful, Loyal and Valiant City. In 1833 the road leading to Madrid was built. A year
later the renovation of the collegiate was completed; it had been ruined during one of the
frequent attacks experienced by the town.
There is plainly a wealth of history at Vigo's doorstep it is alleged that
Spanish treasures ships lie buried in the bottom of the harbor.
The city is also gateway for a pilgrimage through history
to the Shrine of Santiago de Compostela.
