Valladolid is the capital of Spain's principal region, Castile-Leon, situated
in the center of the Iberian Peninsula 200 km northwest of
Madrid. To passers-by it may appear nothing more than a sprawling,
new and heavily industrialized city. If you look a little
closer and you'll find a wealth of treasures in this former
medieval town where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella married
in the 15th century and where Christopher Columbus died.
The city is rich in very old churches, museums and monuments and is well known for its
university which was founded in the 13th century and is the second oldest in Spain, after that
of Salamanca. One of the city's most important claims to fame is that the people here speak
the purest form of Castilian.
Apart from its choice of historical sites to visit, the city also offers a number of museums
and art galleries to visit. Like the National Sculpture Museum where you'll find incredible
architecture, religious sculptures and fine paintings. You might choose to engage in beach
volleyball, swimming or, during the cold seasons, ice-skating. Whatever your leisure
preferences, with Car Hire Valladolid you can
explore the city and the surrounding areas.
