The province of Huelva stretches between Sevilla and Portugal, and is only 25km from the Portuguese border, the actual city dates back some 3000 years when it was named Onuba. Later, it prospered under the Cathaginians and Romans who used it as a base for mining. The average temperature is somewhat milder than other parts of Spain due to the strong Atlantic wind, and this means perfect conditions for windsurfing and surfboarders.

The City is a mecca for those interested in Christopher Columbus, with a number of important tourist attractions regarding the well-known explorer. At the nearby village of Palos de la Frontera is the actual embarkation point of the voyage with the old well from where the fresh water was taken aboard.
