It has a wealth of history from the early Greek and Romans. It is said to be one of the two pillars erected by Hercules to mark the edge of the world. Being a British crown colony with an approximate population of 32,000 and is about 2.5 square miles based on a slim rocky neck of land extending into the Mediterranean Sea. From the South West of Spain, Most of the neck of land is occupied by the Rock of Gibraltar. It is said to be one of the pillars of Hercules, which guards the north-eastern end of the Strait connecting the Mediterranean with the Atlantic.
