Fuerteventura has over 150 stunning beaches, the most popular being at Costa Calma, Playa Jandia and Cleta de Fustes. There are also numerous spots where you can unwind and lie in the sun in silent seclusion, particularly off-season. Next to surfing the other most popular activity is big game fishing. The waters surrounding the island are teaming with Blue and White Marlin, Tuna of all varieties.
The island retains its charm, a product of its endless, un crowded beaches, its appealing, peaceful villages and its friendly people. 60 miles off the coast of Africa lies the second largest of the Canary Islands, With miles of warm, untouched sandy beaches tempered by a cool gentle wind off the Atlantic it has developed into a retreat for sun worshippers in search of tranquility. The least inhabited of the archipelago it has a number of unbelievable desert scenery, dotted with small villages with whitewashed houses.
One of the main resorts on the island is Corralejo, which in spite of the numerous low-rise hotels and apartment buildings along the beach it still retains some of the charm of the fishing village it once was. The town itself has quite a few small shops, bars, cafes and a couple of discos but the main reason for Corralejo's reputation are the white sandy beaches and clear blue sea at Las Grande Playas. It is a surfer's paradise and often plays host to international competitions.
