Dubrovnik is a wonderfully preserved fortified town
pressed against the sea within superb medieval walls. The main entrance to Dubrovnik's old town (stari grad) is the Pile Gate, a fifteenth-century structure decorated with a statue of St Blaise (Sv Vlaho), the city's protector, set in a niche above the arch.
This is beyond doubt a city caught in the medieval times, if you are the kind of person to enjoy getting lost in time and space then you are guaranteed to be taken on a trip of a lifetime in Dubrovnik, the ruins will astonish and leave you breathless, the stunning lakes, white pebble beaches and crystal-clear sea will be stunning you. There are several churches, monasteries and museums to explore and the coastline is awash with marinas, piers and promenades. The residents walk out in the evening a custom known as the korzo. Even the city's many small, restaurants serve up local specialties such as shellfish, oysters and lobster, dark ham and risotto. The city also offers luxury - there are five-star establishments with amenities such as spas and saunas and magnificent hotels and cafe's brimming with the old-age elegance of crystal chandeliers.
